About Our School

New Sign

It was opened on its present site in 1958.   There are over 10 hectares of grounds with a gymnasium, swimming pool and pavilion.   The setting is magnificent.   The grounds are beautifully landscaped and splendidly maintained.

The Ministry of Education's predicted roll for 2010 is 375.   This is the perfect size to ensure effective and personal management of learning and teaching.

We are fortunate to have a multi-cultural roll including European, Maori, Pacifica, Indian, Cambodian, Zimbabuean, Dutch and Swiss. We also have groups of students from Japan, Korea and Thailand on long and short term visits to our school.

We have achieved high levels of success in everything that we do from academic to cultural, sporting and leadership aspects of achievement. We have a long list of past pupils who have gone on to international and national recognition in a wide range of careers, cultural and sporting areas.

The college employs a team of close to 60 in order to best meet the needs of our students. Teachers are well qualified and are well funded to stay up to date with current teaching content and methodology. At the same time some parents are active as Board of Trustee members, PTA members, managers and coaches, volunteers and support people. Our success depends on the input of the wider community.

The college is lucky to have a full complement of teaching spaces including IT rooms, laboratories, a modern library, gymnasium, technology workshops and multi purpose classrooms. These are well maintained and sit in ten hectares of grounds including very well maintained sports grounds, hard recreation areas, gardens, seating areas and grass. A sports pavilion is an extra not available to most state funded schools.

We are a school that expects high standards from everyone involved in our day to day business. We are dependent on a quality partnership between teachers, support staff, students, their parents and the wider community. Every part of this network is essential if all students are to reach their potential.

As our students pass through the school they are very well prepared for their lives after school. Part of this depends on quality career education, the opportunity for work experience including the ”Gateway” programme, life skills learning, the encouragement of self management and the opportunities for leadership.
